Golf Injury and Back Pain Effects Pros Golfers & Amateurs Alike

The three major causes of golf injuries are:

1) Postural instability

2) Lack of flexibility

3) Misaligned swing mechanics

The golf swing requires the spine to rotate, bend laterally and extend. This requires flexibility that is golf specific.

Golfers suffer from a variety of injuries. Below I have listed the most common injuries for the PGA and LPGA.

PGA: Low Back Pain (25%), Left Wrist (16.1%), Left Shoulder (10.9%), Left Knee (7%), Left Hand (6%)

LPGA: Left Wrist (31.3%), Lower Back (22.4%), Left Hand (7.5%), Left Knee (6%)

Here is a list of common causes of golfing injuries: Amateur and professional: most common is repetitive practice. Amateurs, poor swing mechanics is the 2nd most common. Swing faults are responsible for both amateurs and pros joint complex dysfunction and de-conditioning syndrome. Increased club lengths have contributed as an injury promoter.

Back Pain: Due to the notorious X-Factor as much as 8 times the normal force is put into your low back during a golf swing. The golf swing subjects the lower back to rapid, complex, and intense loading patterns. The lower back must contend with significant lateral bending, shear, compression, and torsional forces. For example, the golf swing generates a peak compression load of more than eight times the body weight in both amateurs and professionals, whereas running and rowing only generate four and seven times body weight, respectively. It is not surprising that 62% of golfers will incur an injury directly related to the sport.

What Quick Fix Golf Is All About.

Just a very short video to esplain, (no that's NOT a mis-spelling) to you exactly what Quick Fix Golf is all about.  Our teaching philosophy in a nut shell.  We know what to fix in your swing and what to leave alone.

You could visit a PGA tour event, go to the driving range, and ask the tour players what they are working on.  You ask 100 different players, you might get about 60 different answers.
Some players are actually working on the same movement, but just attacking it from a different angle.  So, what they tell you might seem different, but it's probably not.

Please don't fall for the typical "swing theory" or magical method that will take you to the promise land of golf.  Not to say that some swing methods or theories haven't work for different players at different times in their career.  Let's face it, none of the pros can hang on to their best ball striking ability forever.  I consider this fact as part of the fun of the game.  How boring would it be if only one player kept winning week after week!

Golf Swing Analysis Jim Furyk vs. Graeme McDowell

This video analysis should prove to you that a golf swing doesNOT have to be pretty, it needs to be effective.  I've done for you a comparison of Jim Furyk vs. Graeme McDowell.  Once we slow the swings down you will find that these swings are not as crazy as you might think st full speed.

You will learn that "spine angle" is a BIG key to consistency and having a bulged left wrist could be very helpful.  To get the bulged left wrist I use my right hand to hinge the golf club back.  You might find another methods better for you.  That's what Quick Fix Golf is all about.

Enjoy and Happy Rather's Day! Also I made some improvements for the $19 per month program.  Just go to http://quickfixgolf.com/Golf-Lesson-Membership.htm
(Current members do not need this program, it's already included in your original membership)

Dustin Johnson using a 10.5 degree driver?

Alright macho man, Bloomberg television showed a short clip on the making of Dustin Johnson's driver and it shows that he was building a 10.5 degree lofted driver.  I bet you thought that all these long hitters were using low lofted drivers, like 7.5 or 8.5.  You must take into consideration that Dustin has a very closed position at the top of his back swing.  The closed position actually reduces the loft on the golf club.  So, his 10.5 plays like an 8.5.

To reach what is "effective loft" you must add the loft on the golf club itself, the angle of attack of your swing path and the club face angle at impact.  That is why I insist that it is not necessarily the brand of golf club or the fitting system, it is the ability of the fitter to understand and recognize the idiosyncrasies of the golfer's swing and how the golf club fits into the golfer's swing pattern.

Here's a great interview with Butch Harmon on Dustin Johnson, (his student) that is well worth watching.  Butch also supports a teaching philosophy that is very, very, very close to what we do here at Quick Fix Golf.  Personalized instruction allowing you to use your personal assets and tendencies.

You Want More Club Head Speed? Watch This.

When you service as many students as I do, you occasionally get that special standout that comes along.  Without fanfare, Sri Ghanta quietly shows up at the Patterson range almost everyday and displays a work ethic that is lacking throughout our society today, in my estimation. (Of course he gets the large range card so it saves him money)

Besides being a great student of the game, Sri is also quite a gentleman.

From a golf swing standpoint, he has worked on the range for a year and a half, never seeing the golf course itself.  I had the honor of playing with him on his first round, as did a few of our other student/members, and we can all attest to the fact that Sri made a par on his first hole, the par 5 1st at Pendleton!  On his third round he made his first birdie on number 6 with the flag in the back on the upper tier.  Pendleton's most difficult hole!

On the simulator at last nights workshop at Patterson Golf Park Sri was clocking over 117 miles per hour club head speed.  Below is a video analysis of Sri's golf swing, demonstrating to you the angular acceleration Sri creates, using Sergio Garcia as a comparison.  I hope you learn something from it. My sincere congratulations to Sri, and keep up the good work.

You want more angular acceleration in your swing?  Stay behind the golf ball and pull straight down with the arms first.  For a video on how to get more angular acceleration in your golf swing just email me and I'll send the video free. bobbylopez@quickfixgolf.com

We Can Re-Shaft Your Golf Clubs For Better Performance

Like I say in the video below, re-shafting your golf clubs is like changing the pipes on your motorcycle.  More power and more fun.  The golf shaft is the engine of the golf club so why not super charge your engine for power.  Plus it costs less money than buying a new set.

In some cases, a new set would NOT be as beneficial as re-building your existing set to tighter tolerances.  We are not under the pressure of producing golf club on a tight schedule, (Cuban time) and build each set on its own, not an assembly line.

I've seen how graphite shaft manufacturers take advantage of this point and charge outrageous prices for exotic shafts that in my estimation might not produce what they claim.  Some driver shafts can reach $300 or more!  That's before installation costs.  The true talent in this equation is determining the exact shaft that performs the best for you regardless of the price.  It might turn out that the least expensive shaft out there does everything you need to improve.  I've had some great results with the UST driver shaft which is only $59 to $63 and similar to what Jim Furyk and Adam Scott use.

Please take a moment to view the video I did for you that explains the process of a re-build.  If you would like to talk about this subject matter further send me an email at bobbylopez@quickfixgolf.com or give me a call 804-378-7456.

I separated the videos into three parts so it wouldn't take as long to load up for you.

Flipping Your Hands at Impact in Your Golf Swing?

Here's a swing fault that many a golfer between the average score of 75 - 90 seeks to improve on, in order to improve to the next level.  You can only get so good with a flipping motion at impact.  Why?  One, you're increasing loft on the golf club so you turn your seven iron into a nine iron, thus loosing distance.  In addition, your flip is causing the golf club face to be open, causing the ball to fly higher and away from you, (fade).

How do you get rid of such a problem?  Well, first take a look of an analysis I did on a young man that has a slide and flip move, that is holding him back from his full potential.

You can get a video analysis of your swing over the internet FREE!  You need to know if you are flipping at address and what to do about it.  For details go here.
